SkyHawk is Seagate’s surveillance-class drive for always-on DVR and NVR installs. Tuned for continuous video write loads, it pairs ImagePerfect firmware with efficient power draw so footage stays clear under heavy camera counts. Selected capacities include RV sensors for multi-bay chassis, with SkyHawk Health Management to keep drive status visible across the fleet.

Tuned for surveillance write loads
SkyHawk is shaped for DVR and NVR duty — long sequential writes, not desktop multitasking. Firmware and mechanical design favour overnight recording so footage lands cleanly when cameras never sleep.
Room for busy camera sets
Workload headroom up to 180 TB per year and support for as many as 64 HD streams help busy sites keep every frame. ImagePerfect firmware is there to blunt the dropouts that show up when generic disks choke on multi-stream video.
Always-on durability
A one-million-hour MTBF target and capacities through 8 TB suit sites that cannot pause recording. Lower power draw cuts heat in dense chassis, while SkyHawk Health Management on supported SKUs flags issues before they become gaps in the archive.
Plays with mainstream recorders
SkyHawk is validated across common DVR/NVR platforms. Confirm the maker’s compatibility list before you buy — then match capacity to retention days and camera count.
Rescue when hardware fails
A three-year Rescue Data Recovery plan¹ rides with SkyHawk where Seagate offers the service. If a drive fails or files are lost, in-house recovery can pull footage back so investigations are not left with empty slots.
- Rescue Data Recovery Services are not offered in every country. Ask your Seagate contact — or our team when quoting — before you rely on coverage.
- Warranty, Rescue eligibility, and NVR compatibility are confirmed on your Crozsi quote for the SKU you select.
3-year limited manufacturer warranty; 3 years complimentary Rescue Data Recovery Services where available.

Frequently asked questions
How do surveillance drives differ from everyday desktop HDDs?
Surveillance models are built for nonstop write cycles. Desktop disks expect shorter duty cycles and mixed desktop tasks; SkyHawk firmware and workload rating target continuous camera ingest so recordings stay intact through long shifts.
Can I drop a SkyHawk into a regular PC?
It will work as storage, but you usually overpay for surveillance firmware you do not need. Gaming and general productivity still favour desktop-class drives tuned for mixed reads and writes.
Why choose a surveillance drive for external video archives?
Sequential write strength and 24×7 durability suit large video dumps. Firmware aimed at multi-stream ingest keeps long recordings more predictable than a recycled desktop disk.
Should I record CCTV to a standard desktop hard drive?
We advise against it. Desktop SKUs lack ImagePerfect-style video tuning and wear faster under constant camera write pressure, raising the chance of gaps in evidence footage.
NAS drive or surveillance drive: which fits my project?
NAS HDDs (IronWolf) lean into multi-user file sharing and RAID. SkyHawk leans into unbroken camera recording. Pick NAS for shared files; pick SkyHawk when the primary job is always-on video.
What recording technology does SkyHawk use?
These SKUs use conventional magnetic recording (CMR) for consistent sequential video writes. ImagePerfect firmware and, on larger capacities, RV sensors help multi-bay NVRs keep streams stable.
